I. REDEMPTION Colossians 1:13-14 II. JUSTIFICATION Romans 5:19 III. FORGIVENESS Ephesians 1:7 IV. SANCTIFICATION Hebrews 13:12 V. PEACE Colossians 1:19-20 VI. ACCESS Hebrews 10:19-20 VII. As we kneel at the foot of the cross and look up, we see a very unique man- a God/
man. Who is He really and what does He mean to our lives? We will use an acrostic to describe who He is. I. C - He is the creator. A. How can that be? Well, read John 1:3 and Colossians 1:16-17. Nothing could be clearer. B. We were not only created by Him, but for Him as well. Colossians 1:16b We were created to worship Him, love Him, serve Him, and finally live with Him forever. C. Jesus died on the cross to make possible what He created us for as listed above. II. R- He is the redeemer. A. Galatians 3:13 calls Him our redeemer. B. Redemption means to be set free. Jesus died on the cross to set us free. John 8:36 and Romans 8:2 are a couple examples of His redemption. C. Jesus died on the cross to set us free to be new people when we come to Him by faith. III. O - He is the overcomer. A. In John 16:33, Jesus described Himself that way. B. Jesus overcame the world by His death and resurrection. C. Jesus died on the cross to overcome the devil and to enable us to overcome. IV. S - He is the Savior. A. Refer to Matthew 1:21 and 18:11 for scriptural proof. B. Jesus died on the cross to save us from sin. 1. Sin is our primary problem. It's what's wrong with the world. 2. Sin keeps us from being all we can be for Jesus. 3. Jesus saved us from sin's awful hold on our lives. C. We need Jesus as our savior. There is no other! V. S - He is the sustainer. A. Colossians 1:17 and 1 Peter 1:5 tell us this. B. How does He sustain us? 1. He sustains us through the Holy Spirit. 2. He sustains us in our salvation. 3. He sustains us during the temptations and trials of life. 4. He sustains us through His word and prayer. C. Jesus died on the cross to sustain us. The first letters of all of these words spell CROSS. Without the cross none of this would be possible. Each word is verified in scripture. Where does one start when telling others what the cross means to them? I will start with one word: RECONCILIATION. It should humble us that Jesus had to die on the cross for us to be reconciled. What does it mean, by the cross, to be reconciled?
I. By the cross, we have been reconciled to God. "To reconcile all things to Himself." A. The relationship, broken by sin, has been healed by the cross. B. On the cross, Jesus reached out, took my hand and joined it to the hand of God. C. Because of the cross, we can be at one with the God of the universe. II. By the cross, we have been reconciled to each other. Ephesians 2:14-18 A. The rift between Jews and Gentiles has been healed by the cross. B. The rift between all people can be healed. C. Because of the cross we can be reconciled to each other. III. By the cross, we can be reconciled to ourselves. A. Self-acceptance is a big thing today. Christian self-acceptance is not accepting our sorriness. B. It is complete acceptance. We can forgive ourselves. We can be at peace within ourselves. C. Because of the cross, we can live life to the fullest. Galatians 2:20 We claim this reconciliation by our faith in Jesus Christ. ARE YOU RECONCILED? |
